Who We Are

Our Mission

Our Vision

A world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

The Need

Housing instability — including frequent moves, overcrowding, and the threat of eviction or foreclosure — creates stress, depression and hopelessness for far too many individuals and families. Adults living in housing that they struggle to afford often describe themselves as less healthy, and the well-being and development of millions of children is compromised by living in insecure housing. People paying too high a percentage of their income for housing often find themselves making impossible choices. Rent or health care? Food or transportation?

Our Work

Blount County Habitat for Humanity is driven by our vision that everyone needs a decent place to live. An affiliate of HFHI, a global, non-profit housing organization operated on ecumenical Christian principles, we are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally by constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

We work toward our vision by building simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with our community and sell them to income-qualified participants at no profit. Habitat homebuyers help build their own homes alongside volunteers, investing many hours of sweat equity. In addition, homebuyers complete individualized levels of financial training and mentoring as well as homeownership education. We have built more than 170 new homes under our homeownership program.

Just as imperative, our home repair program provides critical repairs and accessibility modifications including wheelchair ramps to qualified moderate to low income families. Nearly 600 households in Blount County have been served through the home repair program. With an expanded offering of products recently implemented, we expect this program to serve even more people in the future.

This important work can only be accomplished though our community’s generous donation of time, talent, and treasure.
